East Bergholt Cricket Club Two Counties First XI v Long Melford on Sat 07 May 2016 at 13:00
East Bergholt Cricket Club Won by 93 runs

Match report A beautiful day at Gandish road saw two new experiences for the new season, the winning feeling returned and a slighter tougher/shocking experience saw Bergholt perform a warm up before the game, with the coach stamping his authority down.
The track looked ready for a good afternoon for batting which was strange when the Melford skipper decided to stick us in, but then again going on our last two results could have been clever.

George and Rich had other ideas and got to work, picking off the bad balls and being patient, both playing some great shots in the process, seeing off the opening bowlers and setting a good platform,
George was first to fall when spooning a shot back to the bowler, which was a shame because he looked set for a big score.
Geds came to the crease and picked off a few runs only to play three cross batted shots too many and was then bowled by the same bowler,
This brought Mike, who contributed quickly playing good shots into gaps and keeping the runs flowing frustrating the Melford side with Rich, who scored yet another half century!
Mike was then unlucky after attempting a big blow, but only managed to find a fielder deep on the boundary,
This saw Kev Holland come in and played some useful shots to give Geds plenty to think about with such a strong batting line up, Rich looked well on his way to 100, only to be trapped LBW, on 98! It was a shame but a very very good effort with some lovely shots especially the cut that had the crowd oozing!
This saw Rob Smyth in with limited overs and himself and kev to rack up as many as possible with the remaining few overs, Rob was unfortunately out on the final ball of the innings given LBW trying to go for the big shot unlucky as well as a previous over was robbed 4 runs with 'Bumpers doing a sneaky right infront of a heated crowd, much to the appreciation of Grief for his Balls!.

This left Bergholt with a healthy lead at lunch with everyone who batted giving a good contribution, and it was left to a strong bowling side to fire the win into the Bergholt bbq!

Mike & Cheese opened up, and started off very tightly with the field complimenting good bowling, and with this Mike struck there opener on the pads to bring the first wicket,
Bergholt continued to field well and Melford struggled to accumulate runs, making more of a mountain to climb, chances coming with a missed stumping and a dropped catch from Geds much to the disappointment of cheese who bowled well,
Mike turned to Spin without realising when Rob had enough of the pace and stood up to the stumps and the first ball of this resulted in the opener being stumped, to be fair Robs reactions saw for a great stumping!
Mike then got the prized wicket of 'Bumpers' who after being bowled high fived him of on his way to his football presentation do!
Kevin joined the party, bowling their batsmen, which he claimed nipped back in, but suggestions behind the stumps saying the batsmen missed a straight one,
Pottsys replaced Mike to weave his magic and was in with the wickets when the batsmen after a few big hits found Nathan S on the boundary,
Kev bowled well and was rewarded when bowling there best batsmen who scored 46. Not forgetting, was dropped earlier by Geds on about 8-9!
Nathan S joined the attack and in his second over bowled a ball to the Melford skipper which should have been there to pull but ended up smashing him in the ankle! Thanks Baz!
Naths next over saw the end of W G Grace who had taken a shine to Bergholt for his style and his class, he is hoping to join us next year! He was unfortunately bowled!
The game had become a bit lacklustre with Bergholt well on there way and Melford just trying to gain something from the game but clever thinking from Mass after some not so great run out attempts ( not the first time in the game) managed to stay calm and hit the stumps from close range.
Pottsy picked up the final wicket with the star man of the day Rich taking a catch, yes a catch on the boundary!!!
Setting Bergholt up for their first win of the season and putting smiles on the sunburnt faces, good efforts all round especially George, fielding with third degree burns for most of the afternoon..
And onto a well organised and planned bbq minus a BBQ!

Well done boys, let's take the momentum on to next week! Come on the Bears!
