East Bergholt Cricket Club Two Counties First XI v Mildenhall 2nd XI on Sat 16 Jul 2016 at 13:00
East Bergholt Cricket Club Lost by 62 runs

Match report On the hottest day of the year so far The Two Counties First XI welcomed Mildenhall Second XI looking to make a mends for below par performance in the repeat fixture back in April.

With the club uniting for the Junior Awards in the morning to celebrate the end of the Junior season there was plenty of buzz, optimism and preparation ahead of the game. Sadly a lot of that optimism was removed as soon as the skipper lost the toss yet again and we were asked to bowl in extremely hot, muggy conditions!

The Mildenhall openers took advantage of the batting conditions and a dropped catch and smoothly progressed to 127 until the first wicket fell with Mass taking a fine catch at cow corner off the bowling of Smith. This turned out to be Mass' final involvement in the game as he trudged off with a broken little pinkie! From this point on Bergholt bowled and fielded very well and kept what could have been a huge score down to a below par 224 for 8. The pick of the bowlers was undoubtedly Kevin Holland who took an impressive 5 wickets for 64 off his 12 overs. Big hand goes to Paul Moore who came on as substitute fielder and took a nice run out with a direct hit!

With recent batting performances being scrutinised Rich and George got us off to a better, albeit slow, start against some quick bowling but both failed to progress their innings and we were 2 down with only 57 on the board. Potts was unable to build on his excellent 'not out' innings from last week and Robbie also fell cheaply and we were again in the mire at 70-4. Only Geds, 24, and Kev, securing the man of the match performance, with a welcomed 43 (final wicket of the innings) provided some resistance. Not even had Mass batted with one hand would we have been able to secure victory and as such we fell well short being bowled out for 162.

With only 1 win from our 5 consecutive home games in the middle part of the season (one being rained off) we find ourselves very much in a relegation battle and with 3 of the next 4 games against team around us we have to start applying ourselves and pick up some vital victories.
