East Bergholt Cricket Club Won by 15 runs

Match report WATER BOMB GATE

On the morning of the Junior Awards presentation the First XI arrived early at the 'Dish to see the future of the club claim their various awards whilst putting on a master class of a pre-game warm up for the adorning crowd...this was shortly followed by Connor getting soaked by a water bomb thrown by Ross which left the overseas incensed his preparations for the game had been attacked!!!!

Anyway, back to the game and Dunmow won the won the toss and elected to field field first in slightly damp and humid conditions. Skipper Foster and opener Pickford set upon their way of starting the innings and having made it through the first 10 overs for 38 runs unscathed the platform was set for a decent innings. Unfortunately Pickford succumbed in the tenth over and with Connor falling cheaply we were again in a small hole at 54-2. Sam and Geds were batting nicely until Sam was trapped plumb LBW for a solid 41. Gedny continued to probe and saw George, Ross and Jamie all lose their wickets as we slumped to 130-6. Geds was the seventh man out and after Potts was caught superbly by Kesingland a fine 9th wicket partnership by Will and Ben for 19 took us to a cruicial 173-9 at tea which was considered as a decent total.

Dunmow started exceptionally well, taking advantage of some generous bowling in thand first 8 overs as it became clear that slow or spin bowling was the best approach on the wicket. Oakley too, the first wicket with the score at 49, trapping Gallant LBW with the score at 49. The Dunmow top order continued to out the Bergholt attack under pressure with Swanston and Rooney both reaching mid 20s before losing their wickets to skipper Foster. Roswell also secured a solid 21 before being stumped off th bowling of Philpot whicih left the visitors at 116-4 and still in command to win the game. Reid was next to fall but with th score at 141-5 with 4 overs to go it was always going to be tight affair. Sam got Kesingland out caught and bowled and and a tight 43rd over saw him take 2 wickets in 2 balls, his 4th and 5th of the game, which swung the game in Bergholts favour. Oakley snagged the final two wickets of the innings to put Water bomb gate behind him and secure all 20 points for the Bergholt boys.
